Thousands of parents and families across the Maritimes are just like you. If you've not yet been told how great it is to love a child with a disability, you've not been told the entire story.
Autism has become a prevalent disorder in Canada as it now affects 1 in 68 children. When a child is diagnosed with a developmental disability, parents and families are unaware of the many supports in their communities to help them along their journey. Attempting to navigate through the disability system can be tricky! Be Sensory Smart was created to share information with new parents and those who are looking for an alternative to medication intervention or segregation.
Connecting with other parents and siblings who are further along in their journey can be an immense source of reassurance and relief for families exploring behaviour-modification techniques. The autism community is a large network of families who are dealing with the same problems and it's through these family connections that make the lives of those living with a developmental disability better.
