5 Great Activities to Incorporate a Sensory Diet at Home.

The following activities are designed for toddlers and pre-school aged children. It is recommended that you get in touch with your occupational therapist to create an individualized plan to fit your child's sensory needs.

Lunch Time!!!

For that rambunctious toddler in your life... While your child lays belly-up on the ground, create a "sandwich" by layering pillows, blankets, and whatever else you can find! Or, to create a "burrito" roll your child up in a blanket. These activities apply a sense of deep pressure that will allow your child to unwind.

The Carousel

Have your child sit on an office chair and let them spin in circles to "ride the carousel." Be cautious with this activity as it is not for everyone. Make sure your child has a firm grip on the chair while they're spinning.

Fizzy Bubbles

This is a fun one and a great way to introduce your child to different textures! Have your child drink carbonated water (or carbonated mineral water) to allow them to experience bubbles in their mouth. At your description, yummy flavours can be added such as fruit juice, lemon, or anything they prefer.

Mixin' the Dough

To stimulate your child's tactile senses, have them help you mix the chocolate chip cookie dough when you're baking. Each ingredient will allow them to experience a different sensory input.

Get Outside!

Take play-time to the back yard, but this time, leave the shoes. Dress your child in clothing that is allowed to get dirty because this is the time for discovering! Let your child walk barefoot in the grass, sand, or dirt to get a feel for the different textures and sensations that the outdoors have to offer.
